Well, it depends on the context and the tone used in the conversation. In some situations, telling someone to stifle themselves can come across as rude or aggressive.

In the famous sitcom All in the Family, you see ill-tempered Archie Bunker telling his wife, Edith, to “stifle yourself.”

As a relationship consultant, I suggest carefully thinking about your words before saying them. It’s better to be kind and considerate when expressing yourself rather than using harsh or aggressive language.

There are usually more effective ways to get your point across without being negative or starting a fight.
