“What’s the difference between wanting someone and needing someone?”

I always remember growing up following my mom to do groceries. She would always be off to the deli or fish area while I strolled around the store. I remember getting cookies from the shelf and trying to hide them in my mom’s shopping cart. As always, she would catch me and tell me to return it. But what she told me always stuck with me.

Don’t get something you want, get something you need, like carrots or apples.

My mom knew ahead that even if I did prefer cookies over carrots or apples, I needed them in order to be healthy.

When you want someone, you choose them out of infatuation and preference. But when you need someone, you don’t always choose them, they are someone who benefits you and you rely on them.
